What is a Dermatology Exam?

A dermatology exam is when we check your pet’s skin, coat, ears, and nails for any problems and find out what's causing them. Skin problems are very common in pets and can be a sign of other health issues.

What to Expect During a Dermatology Exam

You need an appointment so that one of our vets can check your pet and confirm your pet's health status. We will look at your pet's skin history, including when/where problems happen and any changes. Your pet will get a detailed head-to-tail check-up to look at all parts of the skin, coat, and where skin meets other tissues.

We may do skin scrapings, tape preps, or fungal cultures to find parasites or germs. Bloodwork, allergy testing, or skin biopsies could be suggested. Based on exam results, we will figure out the problem and make a tailored treatment plan for relief and recovery.

How a Dermatology Exam Benefits Your Pet

Detailed dermatology testing helps us find the main and secondary causes of skin problems for targeted treatment. Symptoms can be a sign of bigger issues like metabolic disorders, infections, hormonal imbalances, or parasite infestations.

Early treatment leads to better results and less discomfort. We make a personalized treatment plan for your pet that includes medicines, bathing tips, food advice, and how to avoid allergens. Skin health gets better from the inside out!
