What is Microchipping?

Microchipping pets means putting in a tiny RFID (radio-frequency identification) chip under the skin of dogs, cats, and other animals to help identify your pet and reunite them with you if they get lost or separated.

The chip is about the size of a grain of rice and is put in under the pet's skin, usually on the back between the shoulder blades, using a special needle that works like a vaccine shot. The chip stays under the skin near where it was put in.

What to Expect During Microchipping

The microchipping process is quick and easy. A pre-loaded chip is injected under your pet's skin using a specially designed needle. You may notice a small bump for the first few days after putting in the chip. Getting your pet chipped during a regular checkup adds a little extra time. We'll make sure the chip can be read with a scanner and register your contact info into the microchip database.

How Microchipping Benefits Your Pet

Microchips help identify your pet if they get lost or separated. Shelters and vets across the country can scan chips 24/7 to contact you and bring your pet back home. Without a microchip, escaped pets risk never being returned to their families. Microchips last for your pet's lifetime, and you can update your contact info if it changes. Adding your cell phone to the database makes it easier to reach you. Overall, microchipping provides permanent protection and identification for your pet. Protect your furry family members with a microchip today! Contact Vets ASAP anytime to get your pet chipped or scanned.

Frequently Asked Questions

The microchip insertion process is very simple and usually causes only a brief, mild discomfort like a routine shot. The needle is very small, and the chip itself does not move or cause any feeling once it is under the skin. Most pets do not mind getting chipped, and they get some extra treats afterward!

You should register your current phone number and email address so you can be contacted anytime your chipped pet is scanned at a shelter or taken to a vet. You should also register info for 2-3 backup contacts - family, friends, or neighbors - in case you cannot be reached right away when your pet is found. Update any contact changes!

Once you register, your contact information will stay in the microchip company database forever. But it is very important that you update your registration anytime you change contact numbers, addresses, or backup contacts over your pet's life to make sure you can be reached anytime if your pet is found and scanned years later.

Our total cost for microchipping your dog, cat, or other pet is $xx. This fee includes the chip itself, putting it in by our vet, a microchip scanner for checking your pet's chip yourself, and lifetime registration of your contact information in the database. Extra fees apply for membership programs.
