Veterinary Care at Your Home

What is an International Travel Certificate?

An international travel certificate is paperwork that shows your pet's health requirements like shots, tests, and exams for traveling between the U.S. and other countries. You need to follow strict rules to cross borders. We make sure your pet follows the rules of the country you're going to.

What to Expect with an International Travel Certificate

You need an appointment so that one of our vets can check your pet and confirm your pet's health status. We will look at your pet's shot records and order any required lab tests you've agreed to, like rabies titers, blood tests, and poop or heartworm exams.

Many countries need treatment for bugs inside/outside your pet within a certain time before travel. We finish all necessary paperwork and government forms needed to get an approved international health certificate from the USDA APHIS agency. This must go with your pet.

How an International Travel Certificate Benefits You and Your Pet

Figuring out international pet travel rules is hard. We handle those details so you can focus on other trip stuff. Our experience with the latest foreign country requirements helps avoid delays or rejections. Valid certificates prevent cargo quarantines.

Careful vet check-up and testing reduce the chance of getting sick while traveling. Most importantly, proper rules keep your pet safe and comfy arriving at their international place.

Frequently Asked Questions

Ideally, we suggest scheduling your pet's international travel certification appointment 4-6 months before your planned travel dates. This big lead time allows for the completion of all necessary test lab tests, exams, and treatments that are required by most destination countries, which can take months for full completion. Starting the travel certification process well before travel prevents a rush right before travel.

The base exam fee and first health certificate fee are $xx on average. However, required lab tests like rabies titers, blood screens, poop exams, bug treatments, shot boosters, and more will cost extra. Total costs vary a lot based on the specific country rules. We provide complete estimates after checking your pet and destination requirements.

Once issued, the pet health certificate is usually only good for 10 calendar days from the official date of issue before it expires, at which point a new certificate would be required. It is important to carefully time the completion process to fall within this certification window that matches your scheduled travel dates.

Sorry, online health certificates are not allowed for international pet travel per USDA and destination country rules. An in-clinic face-to-face exam by a licensed vet on staff is required for the completion of all required International Health Certificate for Export paperwork. There are no exceptions to the in-person exam requirement for pet travel across borders and into other countries.
