What is a Mobile Pet Ultrasound?

Mobile pet ultrasound refers to vet ultrasound services provided conveniently at a client's home or farm setting by using small, battery-operated ultrasound machines that produce high-resolution diagnostic images of internal anatomical structures through the completely noninvasive use of targeted high-frequency sound waves.

This allows detailed organ evaluation and anomaly detection to be performed in a comforting, familiar environment for the animal instead of making them go to a clinic, which is especially helpful for anxious, elderly, or mobility-limited pets.

What to Expect During Mobile Pet Ultrasound

For your appointment, our experienced ultrasound tech will arrive with our specialty ultrasound equipment at your home or location of choice. Your pet simply lies or sits comfortably while ultrasound gel is applied to their fur. The wand-like ultrasound transducer is gently maneuvered over their body to obtain diagnostic images of the abdomen, thorax, heart, bladder, and more. Real-time black-and-white images appear onscreen. You're welcome to watch the ultrasound being performed and see your pet's internal anatomy! The scan is quick, and most pets tolerate it well without sedation.

How Mobile Ultrasound Benefits Your Pet

Stress-free in-home ultrasound avoids travel to clinics, which can be difficult for anxious or ill pets. Images help detect many disorders earlier, when treatment is most effective. Ultrasound guides precision procedures like cyst drainages or biopsies in familiar surroundings.

It provides insight into the stage and progression of known conditions during cancer care or chronic disease monitoring. Overall, mobile ultrasound makes it easier, more comfortable, and more consistent for your pet. Bring advanced imaging convenience to your pet. Frequently Asked Questions

Some examples include detecting masses or tumors in organs like the spleen, evaluating organ anatomy and function by looking for signs of disease, assessing the bladder for potential stones or masses causing urinary issues, screening the heart for valve defects or chamber enlargement indicating heart disease, checking for free abdominal fluid signaling certain illnesses, confirming pregnancy in cats, and many other applications.

Fortunately, ultrasound is a very well-tolerated diagnostic method that rarely requires sedation or anesthesia for pets. Most animal patients are able to remain fully conscious but relaxed as the transducer gently glides over the skin after the application of warm imaging gel. For anxious pets, we sometimes administer mild sedatives to ensure a smooth ultrasound experience.

There is a base fee that includes performing the complete ultrasound scan in your home setting. Interpretation of ultrasound images and drafting of formal report findings by a board-certified vet radiologist is an additional fee layered onto the base procedural cost. Please inquire for specifics on current pricing.

We make every effort to have a same-day draft report available immediately after your appointment, when possible, so that you do not have to wait anxiously. Finalized reports are delivered within 48 hours in all cases. Let us know if you ever need results expedited for any reason!
